Kenneth Ishak – Silver Lightning From A Black Sky

By paul

Anyone remember Toto? The band that did that ‘Africa’ song you may remember best from a scene in Scrubs when JD is in the bath and trying to relax… well there are times when the vocals on this album remind me of Toto. It’s a kind of relaxed 80s feel…it’s difficult to convey really and I don’t mean it in any negative way because ‘Africa’ is a tuuuuune. But yeah, ‘Anytime Kid’ reminds me of an overblown 80s rock song with strings. It is such a beautiful song mind you, like most of the songs on this album. And you cannot doubt kenneth Ishak is both a talented vocalist and a great songwriter. My only gripe would be that this record, as 12 songs long, perhaps goes on for 2 or 3 too many. That said, the good tracks here are golden and the likes of ‘Hell’, ‘New Rising Sun’ and ‘Snakes In The Grass’ are worth the CD price alone.
