Well I’ve heard worse. I know that’s hardly the most positive way to start a review, but when you’re graced with a black CD cover with a picture of the Royston Vasey equivalent of the Village People, it’s kinda worrying. Just Like Jimmy bark and spit their way through a dark trashy speed-punk that, at times, sounds pretty good. They clearly worship bands like The Misfits and Death By Stereo a lot, but don’t sound identical too either, gaining them some plus points.
At nearly 50 minutes this is a long old listen, and I won’t deny that I did reach for the skip button on numerous occasions. Not because the songs are bad – ‘Sleepy Hollow’s good for a kick off – but because I didn’t ‘get it’ in places. At times the band are just plain confusing. ‘Save You Tonight’ has a rap in it, some odd vocal parts and some chilling keys that sound a bit like Mortiis. I dunno, this isn’t my thing at all (cue the ‘why did you even review it then?’ comments), but I guess Just Like Jimmy do it well enough. Listen and make up your own minds…
