Jetlag Gemini – Business EP

By paul

Doghouse Records were the first to bring The All American Rejects into the world and it appears they may rival their success with Jetlag Gemini, a band who mix pop with a rock sound and coat it in melodies. It’s nothing new or original, but it definitely does the trick over the course of the six songs on this EP. ‘Happy Earth Day’, for example, mixes overblown guitar solos up with a pure pop vocal melody and does it well – at least I found myself half singing along within a few plays and that’s usually the sign of a catchy tune.

Misha Safonov has a little Tyson Ritter in his vocals anyway, which I guess allows me to make such sweeping and lazy generalisations. ‘Don’t Leave Me Hanging’ is a power pop anthem in waiting with all of the pre-requisites to ensure the song stays in your head for absolutely ages. As I mentioned, JLG don’t reinvent the wheel, but with the sun about to shine for a long hot summer (we hope!), this EP could easily make it onto your stereos and iPods…
