Jacob’s Stories – split w/Good Morning Captain

By paul

I don’t normally review singles – infact Punktastic has a policy now where we don’t review them at all – but I had to make an exception for this. A split 7″ limited to 500 copies, each carefully made record comes complete with a hand-made wooden box. Every single copy has been cut, folded and inserted by hand, making this MidMarch release very nice indeed. The two bands featured on this release are very delicate, intracite groups who craft some pretty spellbinding music.

Jacob’s Stories are split between Brighton and London, yet sound like Sigur Ros mixed up with some of the earlier Deep Elm bands. ‘Ballerina’ is a really moody piece of music, yet stunningly beautiful. Brighton trio Good Morning Captain perhaps up the ante even further with a seven-minute marvel entitled ‘A Fire! Oh Boy!’, which whispers and delicately flickers through some breathy vocals. This is the first time I’ve come across either band, yet both are highly impressive – just like the release as a whole.
