Innerpartysystem are a hard band to pin down. Somewhere between the guitars, the synthesizers, the limited edition singles printed on chocolate, the promotional mini-movies that are floating around on Youtube and their idea of creating a musical experience to stimulate more than just the ears, are four musicians from Pennsylvania who’ve created something which has massive crossover appeal.
Following on from the Download EP released at the end of last year, ‘Innerpartysystem‘ is a 12-track party-starter that takes influence from late eighties electronica bands, all the while sticking to a modern rock formula for catchy, climactic songs. The album kicks off with upcoming single ‘Die Tonight, Live Forever’, which is sure to act as one hell of an opener to any live set. Following on from that, cool-as-shit dance anthem ‘Don’t Stop’ is repackaged, re-recorded and sounding a whole lot dirtier than it did on its previous incarnation, which only serves to be a good thing.
Elsewhere, ‘Structure’ and ‘Heart Of Fire’ focus more on the electronic side of things, but they’re exciting, energetic numbers with samples and beat breakdowns aplenty. ‘This Empty Love’ allows the band to take a build-up as far as is probably humanly possible, and when the peak comes, it’s absolutely massive.
Innerpartysystem are an extremely enjoyable band to listen to. At times, there are dark and uncomfortable moments, but these are only magnified by the radio-friendly hooks that are served up thick in every chorus. On tour this October, It’s time to dust down the fingerlights and put on your dancing shoes, Innerpartysystem are here to PARTY.
