InMemory hail from California and sound like a hell of a lot of other bands currently doing the circuit right now. You could lump them in with The Used or Senses Fail, but I think they’re more akin to a slightly worse The Bank Robbers. ‘In So Many Words’ is an album that is full of vocal melodies and strong vocals, all offset by needless screams which pierce some punishing guitars and hard-hitting drums. I guess what I’m trying to say is this record is a bit predictable, even if it sounds pretty good in places.
Songs like ‘Accents are Overrated’ are catchy and have everything in the right place. The vocals are at the forefront of the song and the guitar riff is pretty catchy, but it’s certainly nothing we haven’t heard a million times before. It’s a trait which dogs InMemory throughout. They’re not a bad band by any means, but their ideas and efforts are borrowed from a lot of other bands. There are some pretty crappy songs too – ‘Dry Bristles’ plods along at mid-pace, while ‘The Fidelity’ is a little too much like a song specially written for an ’emo’ scene in The OC. One really impressive thing was the press pack that accompanied this record – crammed full of information and excellently presented. Putting time and effort in never goes unnoticed, so thumbs up to those behind organising the review copies.
