I think this EP is called ‘X’ – at least there’s an ‘X’ on the front cover! Scots I Stand Alone are a pretty impressive prospect, mixing up the SoCal skate-punk of Pennywise with the merry melodies of a Dag Nasty – not too pop-punky, yet maintaining a strong sense of speed, urgency and singalong hooks. This five-tracker is a pretty fine effort too, ranging from the quickfire ‘Lifetime‘ – which may well be influenced by the band of the same name – to the far more melodic closer ‘Handouts’, which shifts key to make the singalongs even sweeter. While the band aren’t fast enough to make Latterman quake in their boots, or melodic enough to be branded pop sell outs, I Stand Alone show progress from their last EP and enough tunes to warrant you checking them out. So do it now…
