I Killed The Prom Queen – Music For The Recently Deceased

By paul

With Parkway Drive leading the onslaught, Aussie metalcore bands are riding the wave right now and IKTPQ are the latest band from Down under to have a crack at the UK scene. Released on Golf in this country, ‘Music For The Recently Deceased’ is an aggressive beast of a record, mixing up death metal with melodic hardcore. In places it makes for difficult and disturbing listening, and for someone who prefers the more melodic side to music, it’s quite an uncomfortable listen. But full credit to the band as the quality of the musicianship is top notch.

Fans of Killswitch Engage will enjoy some of the riffs that rip from this record – ‘Slain Upon My Faithful Sword’ slays all in its path, for instance, while ‘Columbian Neck Tie’ is dark and twisted. There are blast beats and growls aplenty on this record and it’s not one of those crossover albums which feature 8 or 9 aggressive tracks and then 2 or 3 ‘singles’ – this is hard and heavy all the way through. And if you like the sound of that, I Killed The Prom Queen are the band for you.
