The Florida punk rock scene doesn’t get the mainstream recognition it deserves. While the No Idea scene in the north of the State does get the nod, there are plenty of other bands from there who, quite frankly, do good things. Orlando’s How Dare You are one of those groups who should be on your radar. While the vocals are throaty and a slight resemblance to some of the No Idea roster, they’re a much more melodic affair – kind of like throwing Jawbreaker in a blender with Polar Bear Club. That kind of thing.
‘Comfort Road’ starts off in majestic fashion with a string of songs that will have your fist in the air and have you singing along with gusto. It’s just a shame the latter part of the record begins to tail off. A 7 or 8 track EP, rather than a full-length, would possibly have added a full star to the score. That said, ‘Beacon St’ is a huge tune with some raw, passionate vocals that would be lapped up by fans of Hot Water Music/The Draft. ‘Hecker’ and ‘Scout’s Honour’ are excellent songs too as the band manage to find the (almost) perfect mix between getting the vocals and melodies spot on, as well as ensuring the riffs lose none of their power.
The album is available to stream from the link below so there’s no excuse for not giving ‘Comfort Road’ a whirl. It’s passionate and raw and, if nothing else, that alone should whet your apetite.
