Hit By Rockets – Rico E.P

By

Hit By Rockets are a young four-piece pop punk band from Kingston – upon – Thames. After clocking up a few decent support slots in their local area, they’ve recorded an E.P and it’s time get it out and attempt to get some recognition on the national scene. At the sweet age of 16 these guys have still got stacks of time to develop and grow in to the pop punk scene family, so as I put on their CD I was hoping that these boys wouldn’t just be another too young, too clever “We want to be like Blink,” with 3 fast paced chords and dire vocal harmonies, like so many bands I’ve encountered during my time as a Punktastic writer. (No names mentioned.)

The E.P kicks off with opening track “Platelets and Planets” which is by far the records most impressive track, plenty of up lift and bounce and a clever lead guitar riff neatly over laid, combined with a well worked singing melody. The song sweeps through, and could easily be the work of a much older, better known band from America – it is that good. The E.P proceeds to drift in to the more melodic “Sunburn” which in itself is also an extremely good track, showing the bands more “moody” side as well as noticeably by this point their versatility and obvious talent. As does the E.P’s last track “Natural Mineral Water” – a short acoustic number which is also a top tune.

I think in time, if Hit By Rockets continue to develop, and strive beyond where many bands their age often fail, then we could have a very promising talent on our hands within the next 2 or 3 years. It is already apparent to me that these boys have stacks of talent beyond bands that are already developed to the maximum on the national scene.
