Spanish rockers Hedtrip are quite an interesting prospect. With a unique European vocal slant their Mars Volta meets Quicksand-esque sound is a little more pop than either of those bands, but there’s a definite element nonetheless. Hedtrip are never overtly melodic, instead they rely on subtle choruses and vocals to get the message across. And in the main they do it very well – ‘Whenever’, for example, builds up really, really well as a brooding number. I can’t say I’m fully familiar with the Spanish music scene, Day of Rising aside, but this record is inventive and fun and well worth a listen.
