There seems to be a lot of venom directed at Go:Audio and I’m not quite sure why. Sure, they’re signed to Sony and have had a few big support slots, but that’s not their fault – and in any case, who could blame any band for wanting to progress their career as best they can? Playing a synth pop which is more Elliot Minor than HelloGoodbye, Go:Audio are reasonable enough at what they do but perhaps lack the quirks that makes HGB so loved by so many. That said, undoubtedly this band will appeal to a lot of people, especially the younger element.
This four track EP doesn’t re-invent the wheel. It’s basically synth-laden songs with catchy guitars and vocals. There’s a heavy emphasis on the melodies and the pop sensibilities shine through. I don’t think G:A are trying to be anything but a pop band – ‘So Quiet You Were’ is a really good pop song, unashamedly so. And ultimately that’s the reason why this band are doing so well for themselves. I can see why people who read PT may not like it, but the hatred is a little harsh – I’m sure, like many bands, they’re just having fun doing what they do.
