Ginger – Dark Page Chronicles

By paul

f you’ve heard of Hogwash you might be familiar with their ‘side’ project of sorts – although sharing band members is pretty much where the similarity ends – For all Hogwash‘s Millencolin & 90’s Rock affections, Ginger have far more in common with melodic skatepunk hardcore mainstays Belvedere, Rex Banner or Down By Fire.

In fact it’s skate punk by numbers – technical, melodic, fast and full of time changes.

There are a couple of standout tracks that rival most of the output of their peers, Gunkanjima Syndrome is incredible for example, Under The Flag is great to, but overall the album feels overlong with 13 tracks and starts to outstay it’s welcome towards the end. As is often the case with the genre there is little in the way of variety – you’ll either see that as a positive or a negative but here it hampers an otherwise solid but unspectacular album.
