Perhaps unsurprisingly, there’s a Fastlane-esque tint to the two tracks showcasing Geneva’s Lab. I say unsurprisingly as Fastlane guitarist Matty O’Grady is at the production controls, so there’s a great guitar sound and the vocals are at similar levels in the mix. There’s also plenty of lead guitar going on, another Fastlane trait. And while it would be unfair for me to bash the band for their influences, it’s safe to say if you like one band you will like the other.
That said, Geneva’s Lab sound pretty good. The two tracks on offer are catchy and well put together, the guitars don’t just follow progressive chord patterns and the basslines, particularly on ‘Summer Won’t Be The Same’, are very good. It’s always difficult to form a full opinion on the basis of two songs, but there’s certainly talent here and it will be interesting to see if the band can maintain this over something a little more expansive.
