Forget My Name – Bruised, Broken & Alive

By paul

I don’t seem to get too many mainland European bands send their records in for review anymore, so I was pleased to hear from France’s Forget My Name. The band, from Bordeaux, play an honest brand of punk rock inspired by the likes of The Get Up Kids, Alkaline Trio, Samiam and Smoke Or Fire. There’s some great little riffs here and some nice melodies and vocal harmonies. There’s an American influence and the vocals are in perfect English too. ‘Out of Tune’ is an excellent little song with a big riff and a big chorus and it sums the band up really well. There are plenty of songs with simple structures and big choruses and it’s difficult not to like them. Forget My Name would never claim to be the most original band around, but there’s a certain feeling here, a depth of honesty, that makes the band stand out. Tracks like this and ‘Way Too Much’ are well worth checking out. Good stuff.
