Fiya – Better Days

By paul

If you imagine Hot Water Music playing Bad Religion-esque songs, you’d get what Fiya are all about. From the Gainesville scene that has spawned a stack of awesome bands, this lot don’t let the side down. It’s on No Idea for God’s sake, it’s bound to be good – it’s like a special seal of approval! Basically ‘Better Days’ is 10 songs and 16 minutes of raucous pop-punk style melodies with tenacious riffs that will lodge in your brain and have you singing and humming along for ages. Pretty much every song is a winner too, which is always a bonus.

‘Smile’ is fast and furious, but then with every song basically just a shade over 60 seconds long, none of them outstay their welcome. ‘Tell Your Children’ has a great riff that begs you to air guitar along, but it’s the gruff vocals that make it for me. They’re full of feeling and emotion, making the longer songs, like ‘Revelry’, just as enjoyable as the shorter ones. A brief review, for a brief CD, but this record is extremely enjoyable and one I’d recommend checking out.
