Facel Vega don’t fuck about – this four tracker is just nine minutes long and is out of your hair before you know it. That’s often the way for ‘new’ bands to start – hit them hard and leave the listener wanting a bit more. A Facel Vega is a type of car and to be fair this record does push the accelerator pedal to the floor and will possibly even rev your engine (weyoooo). It’s ballsy punk rock, rough and ready around the edges and influenced, in part, by some of the Gainesville bands which make up the No Idea roster.
To be fair the band show a lot of promise. I can’t say it always works and I can’t say the production – or lack of it – inspires me to want to listen to this record over and over again, but there are elements which make me think the band have a bright future. The vocals sound fantastic throughout; really energetic and passionate, it fits the band’s style of music personally. Hopefully Facel Vega can build on what they’ve produced here, the future’s bright if they can and I’d certainly look forward to their next record if/when it drops on my doormat.
