Face to face – Shoot The Moon: The Essential Collection

By Andy

Is there really any point in writing words about this? Face To Face were one of the most loved punk rock bands to have ever strummed a power chord during their existence so by definition they’d have had to have worked pretty darn hard not to come up with a load of storming tracks for the now-inevitable Best Of Collection. So its with an air of gorgeous obviousness that Shoot The Moon is a great way to either introduce yourself to Face To Face, or remember that sadly, they don’t make ’em like that any more.

Twenty-one tracks of utterly necessary street-inflected punk rock make up Shoot The Moon, and you could close your eyes and pick a winner, every time. Opening and closing with the purely anthemic ‘Disconnected’ (they chuck a live version in at the end), and taking in ‘You’ve Done Nothing’, ‘You Lied’, Velocity’ and…well, more or less everything else they’re known for. While there will always be some fans that didn’t get their personal favourites included the fact remains that STM is a strong collection of the songs that basically meant that even if you didn’t hear them, you’d have heard of them – and now its time to find out why.
