This is the record Cartel wish they’d made for album number 2. Rather than spending time in the bubble writing a piss poor album, they should have done what Every Avenue have done with ‘Shh…Just Go With It’ – write a solid record full of awesome singalongs and cool melodies. Rivaling ‘Chroma’ in the pop-punk perfection stakes, this record fails to re-invent the wheel but it does sound sweeter than Jessica Simpson singing ‘happy birthday’ while stood in front of you naked.
Pretty much each of the 11 songs here is fantastic. Following Cartel‘s style of focussing on the vocals as the major instrument, David Ryan’s vocals take the band out of the second division of pop punk bands and into the big leagues. Better than ‘Infinity on High’ and a couple of other recent big name efforts, this should cement Every Avenue‘s place as the band on everyone’s lips. ‘Days of the Old’ and ‘Where Were You?’ are just so, so catchy, while ‘Boys Will be Boys’ and ‘This One’s A Cheap Shot’ are dancefloor winners.
Every Avenue bust moves, grooves and nail all the singalongs. A band that surely won’t be a secret for much longer – check them out now.
