Every Avenue – Bad Habits

By Tom Aylott

What would You do with a tactical 12 gauge? That is the question. A big question at that, and one which Every Avenue strangely feel comfortable enough to pose as an introduction to their latest album, ‘Bad Habits’.

From opener ‘Tie Me Down’ to ‘Watch The World’, hero vocals are nauseated to the max; special mention goes to the oddly placed techy riffs in ‘Whatever Happened To You’ and the uber-ballad ‘I Can’t Not Love You’. Not a single track contained within this half-score of tunes would be out of place in Backstreet Boys’ record, that is if they were dabbling in a more ‘rocky direction’ that day.

Big choruses will translate well live while the infectious hooks and simple soundtrack many a teenage heartbreak but that is the depth of Every Avenue‘s dastardly grasp. Bad Habits is predictable and frankly a little dull, taking the worst parts of 90’s pop-rock and smiting it with aforementioned weapon.

If this is Every Avenue‘s metaphorical attempt at a ‘tactical 12 gauge’, pray let no one witness their ‘22 rifle’.
