Now this is the record Hey Monday should have made. Everlyn are Spanish but have moved over to America to try and break through and their Paul Leavitt ( Senses fail, All time low) produced EP is a fine way of attempting to do so. Their secret weapon is frontwoman Karol who has a very powerful, melodic voice which makes the band stand out. Karol’s vocals take the lead and everything else follows – ‘Hello Dreamers, Bye Schemers’ is led by the vocalist and while it’s not the best song on the album, it shows the band playing to their strengths.
‘Toronto Is Not That Faraway’ is a little slower and shows the band are not one-trick ponies, but they save the best for ‘3 Years Ago’ which is smart, snappy and catchy. It’s a brilliant little pop-rock song and one that deserves a bigger audience. This record is certainly a nice surprise and better than most of the female-fronted American acts. It’s not in the same league as the likes of Paramore, but Everlyn could go on and make a name for themselves if they carry on like this.
