Ejector Seat – S/T

By paul

Ejector Seat are unashamedly hip and now. I mean on their website they make no bones about their rather obvious influences, claiming: “USING THE BASIC BLUEPRINT FOR ALMOST EVERY CURRENT INDIE BAND (THE BRAVERY/KAISER CHIEFS/BLOC PARTY-INSERT YOUR FAVOURITE FOR THIS WEEK HERE) WE, EJECTORSEAT, ARE NOT ASHAMED TO SAY THAT WE WANT SUCCESS. WE COME ARMED WITH A COLLECTION OF STATEMENTS RATHER THAN SONGS AND WE ARE URGING YOU TO SAVE YOURSELVES OR KILL YOURSELVES.”

Yeah, losing the caps lock would have been nice, but y’know what these indie types are like. Panic! at the keyboard and all that…

So this lot are a five piece who, as they point out, are heavily influenced by bands like Bloc Party in terms of choppy structure, throwing in some keys and synth for good measure. And on ‘Attack! Attack! Attack!’ and ‘To be More Animal’ this all works really well. Infact you’ll find yourself tapping along in no time, such is the infectious choppy nature of the songs. They don’t break boundaries or re-invent the wheel, but they do what they do very, very well and that’s the key to a great band. It’s nothing too tricky, making things simple and catchy and it works. Really well. It’s not too often we get completely unheard of bands send us CDs that are fun and refreshing, but by Jove I think they’ve done it.
