eightpagepullout – Stand Up

By paul

Maybe it’s just me (well it’s not, my missus agreed), but I found this EP incredibly dull. Not catchy enough to be classed as pop and not punk enough to be pop-punk, eightpagepullout find themselves stuck in the midst and without a niche to fall into. Inoffensive to the max, they’re sugary sweet like Pepsi but with a bit of a bitter aftertaste – it’s not as nice as it really should be. And I can’t really put my finger on why. The guitar tone perhaps isn’t as light and perky as it should be for the type of Simple Plan/Lit style music the band want to play, while the vocals don’t really do anything for me either. ‘Happy Ending’ has a strong attempt at a chorus but for me it doesn’t work the and the lead guitar outro is way too high in the mix. ‘Stand Up’ is catchy but not quite to the level to want to make me listen over and over again. It’s a track which sums up the EP really – it’s OK, just not quite up to scratch.
