Durban Poison – Pushing You Away

By paul

Sometimes I wonder what press people have been eating for breakfast on the day they write their bios for bands. Durban Poison‘s laughable myspace bio declares vocalist Tate “screams, gravel churning in his throat, his powerful, abrasive vocal reminiscent of Lennon, Cobain, Gallagher.” Firstly, he sounds nothing like any of those three at all, let alone all at once. And to mention three fantastic songwriters in the same breath as a distinctly average Bullet For My Valentine-meets-Nickelback clone is simply laughable. It’s actually very difficult to take the band seriously when they’re allowing people to write such shit for them. Put simply, Durban Poison write radio-friendly mainstream rock unit shifters. And with a decent video or two, you can expect kerrang! to be all over them like a rash. But the simple fact is that it ain’t punk, it ain’t fantastic and the PR ain’t much cop either…
