Driving On The Right – Demo

By

I’m not quite sure what this 3 track CD is classified as, but I’m presuming it is what Driving On The Right have created for us in preparation for their up and coming work in collaboration with Bravestar Records in the near future. The bands only other release prior to this was a single in 2003 called “Casualties,” which clocked up some fairly decent reviews and threw them into the U.K music scene limelight.

Listening and getting into this band is pretty easy. Their post-rock sound comes hand in hand with poppy tendencies which make songs like “The Technician” a track to attract the attention of numerous audiences. Its catchy opening riff, and sing-a-long chorus, combined with energetic vocal lines and raw guitar sounds make D.O.T.R a perfect addition to the Bravestar family along side bands such as The All New Adventures of Us and My Awesome Compilation. “Story of Us” – track 2, also follows this rule, with its ability to have you hitting the repeat button time and time again. Vocalist Jason Davenport, sounds full of anger at points, but also carries stacks of melody, and the ability to hold a decent note. It took me a while to connect the two, but D.O.T.R also reminds me of Jerry Built. The way they work the vocal combinations and also the short sweet songs, that have a big impact on you.

One thing to notice and enjoy about D.O.T.R, is their ability to use simple methods effectively. They don’t try too hard to over complicate matters, their songs are built upon simple structures and with plain guitar sounds coming straight out of the British pop punk rock influence, that bring in thoughts and memories of great bands like 3 Colours Red and A. Something that has been lacking in the U.K scene for a while, and I’m sure D.O.T.R would be keen to re-instate.
