Destine – Lightspeed

By paul

There’s no doubt that had Destine formed in the UK they’d be much, much bigger on these shores. Already fairly sizeable on the mainland, there’s a Euro-American twinge to the band’s pop-punk sound which should help them appeal to any fan of the genre. Shockingly they still haven’t really managed to break through here yet and if this album doesn’t do it, I don’t know if they ever will. ‘Lightspeed’ is choc-full of singalong hooks and mega-sized choruses. There are subtle variations too – from the Madina Lake-esque ‘Where Are You Now’ to the straight up power pop of ‘Everything In Me’ which has a real swagger in the verses and a huge hook in the chorus. Truth is there are many, many bands doing the same thing out there, but few are as good as Destine.
