In ‘EP3’, alternative rock outfit DEERS have an impressive release that proves that there’s more inspiration in the hills of Norfolk than one might believe – it’s a four-track powerhouse of experimental and progressive instrumentals as well as tormented and haunting vocals.
The EP bursts into life with ‘Sleep.Recover’, fitted with a menacing bass line that is reminiscent of an earlier, more emo 30 SECONDS TO MARS, and a huge outro that concludes the opener in style. Meanwhile, the vocals and ambience draw similarities to the atmospheric quintet on the other side of the Atlantic, MOVING MOUNTAINS.
Each track offers something different, but maintains a stamp of quality throughout; ‘Building Blocks’ stands out because of the beautiful vocal display and soothing acoustic-folk guitar line, ‘Fires’ churns like butter, with a smooth interplay between the guitars and bass, and on ‘MTS Remix’ breath-taking and eerie vocal harmonies lace pounding electronica and destructive beats.
The third instalment in what is shaping up to a be an epic EP saga, DEERS are ageing like a fine wine, as they continue to prove they have what it takes to champion their addictive brand of alt-rock.
