There’s a really nice buzz building around Dave House and it’s not too difficult to see why. ‘Kingston’s Current’ was a little gem of a record and this four tracker builds on that momentum. The CD’s title track has a really warm Death Cab kinda vibe to it, and while I know that’s such a lazy and obvious comparison I feel it’s inevitable – and a good thing. The track has a really laid back feel to it – catchy yet not overly so – and it will have you singing along with your feet tapping in no time. The stripped down album version, which also features on this EP, is every bit as good as the full band effort.
‘Trafalgar Square To Anywhere’ is a lot more stripped down and the vocal s remind me quite a lot of Sam of Get Cape… fame. The song structure is also quite similar, although without the fancy laptop beats. The addition of a cello is a masterstroke though, adding a real sombre backdrop to proceedings. Jenny Owen Youngs even pops up with guest vocals on the lovely ‘Since Yesterday’. There’s little I can say about Dave House really, other than you need to listen. That’s the best review I can give.
