I know a lot of people who like D-Rail and so I expected this to blow me away. Except it didn’t. And I know I’ll get hammered for saying this, but I think this is really poor. It’s one-paced, flat…there’s no energy. I dunno, maybe I’ve been sent the wrong record or something. But for me this is just really average fare and not what I was expecting at all. ‘I Am A Timebomb’, for example, just seems really flat. I’m not an expert when it comes to production, but everything seems to get muddied together so that neither the guitars or drums stand out. The vocals don’t tend to get above a fairly basic shout, whether it be in volume or in tone. I hate to sound like an old man but I listened to this record a few times over and over again and just got lost in terms of where one song started and another finished; it’s not that it all sounds the same, it’s just all very familiar sounding after a while. The breakdown on ‘Roll of the Dice’ is one of the better bits, but overall I just found this record to be a big disappointment.
