Crackout – This is what we do

By paul

When the hell did Crackout get so good? Granted they were always promising but when their first album failed to make the impact it really should have many people must have written them off as one of the many, many also-rans that Britain seems to chuck up. They’ve been away for a while, apparently have written an entire album, scrapped it and recorded another, entirely different album, and thank Buddha or whoever it is we should thank.

Sidling out of the stops like The Pixies “Debaser” on tranquilisers and three minutes later they’ve transformed into some sort of twenty-first century bastard rock Godzilla, this second single from new album “Oh no” really deserves a bit of attention. Crackout have clearly started getting things right. It’s the combination of such simple ingredients that all of a sudden start making more sense than anything more complicated ever could. Steven Eagles’ song writing has come on acres and yards since “This is really neat”. B-sides “You snooze you lose” (a song far surpassing any NME “what-core” dross, Franz Ferdinand couldn’t ejaculate a better angular, art-rock song complete with “do do do wahs”)and “Nobody does it right” categorically showcasing a band who deserve to be huge. Really. They do. I know it’s strange.

I suppose it’s a combination of their requisite parts. Whatever it is its just damn fine rock music. Say it with me. “Crackout: next big thing”. Someone has to be…
