Apologies to the band as I’m not sure what this EP is called – I had a look on myspace and couldn’t see it, or any artwork, and the link they sent only had the songs. Still, even with only the most basic details you can still do a thorough review as the music is supposed to do all the talking. And, to be fair to Cities and Skylines, the music does a fairly decent job. They remind me a fair bit of You Me At 6, especially in the vocal delivery. ‘4.15am’ is a decent stab at a pop-punk track, even if the song name is a little cliched, and the band show enough promise on ‘Hello Goodnight’ to suggest they may go on and do better things. On the latter track they remind me a little of 36 Crazyfists, except without the urgency or screaming. I’m sure no-one else can hear it, maybe it’s just the very small warble in the vocals that’s the similarity. Anyone?
Cities and Skylines aren’t new or original, but they do what they do to a decent standard. And as a new, unsigned band you can’t ask for much more than that.
