Chasing Amy know how to write very catchy songs. ‘Never The Less’ really is a keeper; a rip-roaring, foot-stomping three-minute riot which is an instant sugar-fix. Truth be told the rest of the EP is nowhere near as good but at least this group of youngsters are on the right lines. At times it’s a bit too You Me At 6-y, while at others it comes across a bit like The Academy Is. Whatever the influences the end result is a very Americanized pop-punk sound that will appeal to a lot of people.
If the band can consistently write songs as good as ‘Never The Less’ and the latter stages of ‘I Keep My Eyes Shut’ then they could well be an excellent prospect. There’s always work to be done and always room for improvement but for a first EP/demo this is confident and impressive stuff and well worth a listen.
