Capital Lights – This is an Outrage!

By paul

Wow…this album is so hit and miss it’s unreal. At times it’s one of the catchiest records I’ve heard in ages, but then it descends into plodding pop music which could easily be passed off as a Backstreet Boys b-side. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy pop-punk as much as the next guy, but some of the tracks here are so wildly inconsistent it’s as if two different bands wrote this record.

‘Worth As Much As A Counterfeit Dollar’ is a real cracker of a tune and if you wanted to check any one song out, that’s the one to download. But it could also lead you into a false sense of security because it’s one of the much better songs here. Compare it to the bland, plodding ‘Remember The Day’ and it’s like two different bands. The Cartel-esque ‘Miracle Man’ is another good tune, but that is offset by the boring ‘Return’. And so we go on, as one good track seems to blend into one band one.

Shake the duffers and you’d be left with a good EP, but there’s so much filler here I can’t give it anything more than average.
