Capguns n Coke – / The Grizzley Ends Split

By paul

When I saw there were 12 songs on this split CD, my immediate instinct was to think this would be too long. Most of the splits I own are 4 or 6 songs long, so this is certainly value for money. Both bands play a pop-punk sound which is more Screeching Weasel than Blink 182; melodies bounce around all over the shop but it’s more bass driven than guitar led. And Capguns n Coke do it very well as they march through their six tracks pretty quickly. Each song is strong as the band use harmonies well. ‘Long way From Home’ and ‘Please Don’t Go’ stand out as the best two tracks for me.

The Grizzley Ends are a little rougher around the ends and perhaps a little more British-sounding, but are equally as good. They’re not quite adept at using vocal melodies, but the choruses are strong and interesting and tracks like ‘Braindead’ – interspersed with a trumpet – and ‘Not My Day’ are impressive. A very good release indeed.
