Cape Canaveral – Chapters

By paul

I listen to Cape Canveral, who are sadly now no longer with us, and imagine some kind of Buffalo Tom, early Get Up Kids mix. Which I know sounds strange, but there’s a classic rock influence mixed up with a more credible ’emo’ (ie Sunny Day…-era type stuff for those who think we’ve never read fourfa…) sound which makes me wonder why CC weren’t one of the more popular bands to come out of the Nottingham ‘scene’. If indeed there has ever been one.

Suffice to say this record is the band’s swansong and a perfect one it is at that – a short and sharp six-tracker with huge melodic choruses (see ‘Leave’ as an example to most UK bands in how to write great, yet credible, pop songs), great songwriting abilities and the knack of writing songs that get buried deep inside your brain. The short of it is that each of the six songs sounds great and to try and pick a favourite would be doing a disservice to the band and this EP. All I can do is recommend you go out and pick this record up – it’s just a shame the band had to split up, even if they did leave us with such a fantastic EP.
