Caesura – Dear Light Outside

By paul

Chaser raved on about Caesura more than a year ago, so having been aware of this band for quite some time I’m not surprised this release is a good ‘un. Hailing from Winchester, Caesura are an ambitious band who remind me of Bloc Party if they jammed with Jeniferever or The Next Autumn Soundtrack – there are vast musical landscapes which revolve around uplifting riffs and delightful vocals. The guitars sound massive at times, helping the songs drift along rather majestically.

And it’s the big sound which makes Caesura stand out so much. They can switch from the jazzy Minus The Bear-esque moments to a rather more spaced-out, dreamy sound in the flick of a guitar pedal. And while it’s not re-inventing the musical wheel, it’s certainly very, very enjoyable. It’s music to make you think as much as it’s music to entertain, which is always a good thing. And while it could be argued this EP is a little too long, it still has all the elements you look for in a record of this type. If the live show captures the magic of this record, expect big things.
