Burnout In The Capital – So Long To Short Goodbyes

By

How often have you picked up a record, or even given a band a listen simply because you were into the music released previously by that bands label? Is it a fair thing to do? Is the reputation of a band based on what other artists are signed with that label? Is a label forced to stick to one genre and hope everyone is always going to like everything they put out?

Toddler records who put out Burnout In The Capital‘s E.P “So Long To Short Goodbyes” are based in Teeside. In the past a few of their releases have been the shining lights in my CD collection, My Favourite Co-Pilots’ “South Drive” and The Next Autumn Soundtracks split E.P are both incredible records released by sorely missed bands. The point I’m trying to establish here is that in the last few years I’ve always enjoyed Toddler’s records, and the labels turn around and structure is something I additionally admire. So giving Burnout In The Capital a listen, I smiled to myself, because this record to me is one of the extremely rare CD’s I’ll review and keep for my own personal listening pleasure.

Very similar to My Favourite Co-Pilot and Caught In The Headlights, and their eventual combo Stories and Comets, Burnout In The Capital combine heavy riffs, catchy rhythms, and even a pop-punk(ish) melody to create sing a long choruses, full of power and energy. Its post hardcore rock with a tinge of emo influence and it works a treat. Opening track “Now You’re Gone” and track 4, “True” are both from the heart, and seem to carry the head of the E.P’s on running “dedicated” to the past theme. Poetically genius and musically moving, Burnout In The Capital are one of treats on Teeside at the moment, and judging by the talent showcased on this E.P a band we are sure to be seeing more of through-out 2005.
