Bullet Union – S/T

By

I saw Bullet Union at Jealous Records Rocktober weekend last year and they literally blew me away with their frantic mix of energy and powerful songs. For those who don’t know, Bullet Union feature ex-members of URSA and the late great DEAD INSIDE, who’s sound can slightly be heard in the songs on this record.

The record features two tracks on a nice slab of white vinyl, which I understand is limited and nearly sold out. The superbly titled “Stay Indie, Don’t be a Hater” is a great piece of frantic arty hardcore influenced by the likes of DRIVE LIKE JEHU. It’s music made for dancing and I guarantee that you will not be able to stop your foot tapping. The flipside, “Robin….I’ll be back in five minutes“, is more of the same but it see’s a bit of a DEAD INSIDE influence slipping into the songwriting, which in my eyes can never be a bad thing.

It seems to have been one of the quickest records released, from impressing at Rocktober with what was probably my choice set of the weekend to recording a week later to sending it off to the pressing plant and getting it out to people.

But was it rushed?

Well, I wouldn’t say the recording quality is the best i’ve ever heard. Don’t get me wrong, the quality of production doesn’t usually bother me, and some of my favourite bands sound like they recorded in a dustbin, I like a raw sound and as long as the songs shine through i’m more than happy. There is no doubting that the songs on this record are intricate, well-written songs but I was slightly disappointed
that the intensity they have in their live performance isn’t really captured to it’s potential, to me that lets this record down slightly.

All being said, you really should buy this if you like the style of bands like DRIVE LIKE JEHU, it’s only going to set you back a couple of quid, but i’d recommend you check them out live too as i’m sure you’ll be blown away.
