Is this rock, metal, emo, post-hardcore…I’m not really sure, but whatever Blind To want to bracket themselves, ‘Promising Dreams Selling Nightmares’ is actually pretty good. While the 13 songs here don’t break masses of new ground, they have a vocalist with an incredible range. It was the first thing I noticed when I listened to this record, so when you combine the soaring guitars and hard-hitting drums of ‘Digital Separation’ with some clever and impressive vocals, you’re pretty much onto a winner.
While there’s not a tonne of variety here, and some of the tracks are a little long and arduous, there’s more than enough to showcase their talent. While not totally similar, there are little bits of Thrice and Coheed and Cambria in Blind To‘s sound, especially structurally, so if you like those kind of bands and want to hear something a little more homegrown, then you could do a lot worse than this lot.
