There’s an anger in Ben KP Smith‘s voice that I really like. While accents are really in these days (see Kate Nash and Lilly Allen for proof), you get the feeling that Ben’s southern accent is actually genuine – and when he sings about his displeasure for Maidstone on, well, ‘Maidstone’, you know full well that he means it. This four track record is simply Ben and a guitar and it works so much better than many stripped down projects. The vocals take centre stage and are excellent – the lyrics thought provoking and entertaining and each song is catchy enough to warrant plenty of repeat listens. Singer-songwriters are ten-a-penny, but good ones are hard to find. Ben KP Smith is definitely a good ‘un.
