Guitar music is dead, blah blah blah. 2012 is already amazing for new music….
We could and would run through a (long) list of great and brutally ignored UK bands here, but this review is all about ATTACK! VIPERS!’s long awaited second full length ‘Deadweight Revival’, which, as it happens, is full of the proverbial bangers.
We’ve had the pleasure of coming across ATTACK! VIPERS! live many times, but this is the best sounding recordings they’ve ever done, and it’s really captured the best of their sound.
From the word go, the blend of punk rock, metallic hardcore and post rock elements are executed brilliantly and to devastating effect, and after a few listens, the true quality is revealed in the band’s vastly improved dynamics – the whole record is a big step up.
‘Raised By Wolves’, ‘You Were Terror’ and ‘Ghost Town Blues’ are our current favourites, but on a general note: if you’re getting a bored of by-numbers punk and/or hardcore and haven’t come across ATTACK! VIPERS! before, you’re in for a real treat with ‘Deadweight Revival’. It’s brutal at the same time as being immensely listenable, and those who’ve been with the band so far will recognise the progress the band have made since their first record.
It’s an excellent effort, and another fine release from a band that is more than overdue a bit of widespread love.
