Does the world need another synth-based pop-punk band? Naaaah. It doesn’t. That said, if you like the genre, and let’s face it many, many people do, you won’t find many better bands than Artist vs Poet. This four-tracker serves as a good introduction to the band and features four good – if heavily over-produced and sample laden – songs. The lead track has a killer hook, while ‘Getaway’ reminds me of bands like The Maine. This is killer singalong stuff, even if it’s replicating bands to the nth degree. It’s familiar sounding, we’ve heard it all before but it’s done pretty well. Catchy stuff – but can the band do it consistently well over the course of an album? Time will tell…
