Almeida – Fantastic Massacre

By Tom Aylott

When hearing ALMEIDA‘S debut album ‘Fantastic Massacre’, it becomes clear that this band from Southampton (and Brighton) crafted every song with a fast paced mix of punk progressive metal. Certain songs have the ability to erupt a forceful head bang, while others show a more melodic and calmed down approach.

With opener ‘Kinslayer’, the persistent pace, tech metal sound and Tom West’s frantic vocals have the propensity to grab the attention of anyone listening. Although a little short, it makes way for second track ‘Kings In Contempt’, which offers more melodic riffs and demonic drumming with an added layer of attacking vocals.

Title track ‘Fantastic Massacre’ changes scenery and begins with a longer instrumental intro, but soon West’s bold vocals give a clear reminder of their gut wrenching sounds. With ‘Ice Cream Song’ showing off their musical ability, they are back with ferocious pace in the form of ‘Fail-Buyer’ – adding heavy growls into ‘Jury & The Executioner’. Last song ‘By Sin Of Omission’ finishes off the album with elements of everything that is heard in the previous songs, quick punches of strong riffs, fast beats and a balance of the sung and screamed.

The relentless drumming carries each track, and invites the listener to get caught up in the record. Add a layer of fast-paced riffs and some harsh vocals, and this album offers a thrash metal experience that is ready to infect.
