Thought provoking music (not lyrics) is a hard thing to come by these days as managing to find a balance of intensity and thoughtfulness proves a bridge too far for many bands. Alias 12 however have found a perfect blend of rock sensibilities, genuinely compassionate music and to be honest are the kind of band that NME could get hold of and hype beyond all sensible reason, which is of great compliment to this three track EP that is of the highest order. Maybe the key is that they keep their music technically precise as barely a sound appears out of place, it is nothing too extreme, however it simply oozes class.
‘The Distance’ is quite beautiful with the vocals of lead vocalist Chink standing out over slow driving melodies which soothes through the duration while title track ‘Saving Face Wasting Time’ opts for more energy and is certainly a song for all the emo-rockers out there to dance too. The swirling guitars and upbeat melodies are muted slightly on final track ‘Let Tomorrow Burn’ although it still maintains a strong sound that Alias12 seem to have down to perfection already.
This demo was created because the band won a competition from their previous demo to gain time in a recording studio and it is with great anticipation I await their next return to record something new. All three tracks are of a high standard and things bode extremely well for the future if these levels are kept. If these boys are playing in your area I suggest you track them down and check them out.
