Adventure Starts Tomorrow – Select Start EP

What to say about pop punk group ADVENTURE STARTS TOMORROW? They’re not terrible, they’re not brilliant, they’re just sort of… average. It’s frustrating to hear bands like this as they’ve obviously got talent but for some reason they don’t gel together quite as well as they should.

Opening track ‘Summer’ has a great hook running through it and sounds pretty straight forward as if it came out of the slightly old and duff New Found Glory mould and then it’s much of the same for the rest of the release. Final track ‘Peter Venkman is my favourite Ghostbuster’ has a breakdown towards the end of the song where it sounds like the drums and guitar have gone out of time. Perhaps the drummer got a bit worn out (or wears a Meshuggah influence on his sleeve).

Vocally it all sounds a little bit cluttered and overly Americanised. The aforementioned closer features a repeat of “For-ev-errrr” a la Blink 182‘s First Date – exactly the same way they sang it. Back then. In 2001. When a band is UK-based, let alone from the London area, it should be mandatory that pop punk singers find their own voice and not one of their idols whilst growing up.

A slightly forgettable eleven minutes from a band who are so close to getting it right, it’s painful to hear them get it wrong.
