Adequate 7 – Here on Earth

By paul

God bless Ad7. If their last record, released on Household Name, didn’t make you want to get your groove on, then this new one will. While the band have veered away slightly from the sound that won them a legion of UK fans two years ago, ‘Here On Earth’ is more of the excellence we have come to expect from the band. And not only that, but it adds a rawer and, at times, more aggressive side to the group that had previously laid in wait. And anyone who heard ‘King Leopold’s Ghost’ on Punktastic Un-Scene 2 will know exactly what I mean…

That’s not to say the more aggressive side to the band in any way reduces the brass or any of the influences the band are famed for. There are still elements of reggae and funk here, although maybe not quite as obvious as they were previously. The groove-laden ‘Now It’s Time’ will surely become a fans’ favourite, while ‘Splitting Up’ has already received glowing reviews and a bit of radio airtime. ‘Head Up High’ and ‘Gotta Stay Focused’ are further highlights, as a positive message is relayed throughout the entire CD.

‘Here On Earth’ is inventive, original and a lot of fun and cements Adequate 7‘s place as one of the UK’s very best bands.
