Identitiy crisis – no, nothing to do with Thrice, more a description of Southampton’s A Word Like.Attack, who mix up genres yet don’t master any of them. ‘Ships Hung in the Sky’ ends up sounding messy with a total lack of cohesion. The samples and beats on ‘The Last Man in Europe’ are totally needless and there are many other aspects to their sound which comes across as disjointed. The slow/fast bits are generic and if you’re going to mix up your sound do it like Second Monday and make the subtleties stick out. Back to the drawing board for me…
