When I first started listening to ‘Adelphia’ I could have sworn they had a female singer. Various online bios state “vocalist Michael “Jag” Jagmin, whose unique high-pitched voice is reminiscent of Anthony Green and Claudio Sanchez” but they’d be more accurate if they just said he sounded like a girl. It’s weird – dude’s clearly got talent, but the mix of vicious screams and squeals doesn’t sit right with me. ‘Adelphia’ is a decent record for what it is, but what it is is now five years old and incredibly stale. ‘These Cannons…’ is a decent song as the band ramp up the melodies and the catchy choruses, but after that the album goes downhill into a predictable run of songs that stick way too closely to the generic, rather than utilising the vocals, which, while an acquired taste, are clearly very different.
Put simply, if you like generic ‘screamo’ then check this band out. The rest of us can simply ignore them and just get on with our lives as there’s nothing really to see, or hear, here.
