I whacked this CD on, knowing full well that these Florida based hardcore kids were gonna rock my stereo system out like it never had been before. From the second this 10 track album began, this was 30 minutes of heaven.
A Day To Remember‘s style isn’t amazingly different to a lot of the “scene†based hardcore bands. They scream, they shout, they whisper, they sing melodically. They have picky guitar bits, ferocious riffs, and its strung together fast paced, and in your face. So what’s so good about the five-piece? For me it’s just refreshing to hear such an American bubble gum pop voice, not too out of place from a Starting Line or New Found Glory record, combined with the snarls and screams of ADTR’s metalcore side, which wouldn’t be too out of place on an As I Lay Dying or Dead To Fall album. It’s a bizarre combo, but one that works, and works incredibly well.
Add some occasional keyboard based melody, a drop of acoustic goodness, some serious sing-a-long, use them as your msn name lyrics, and a whole load of passion and energy which makes you want to get up bounce like a pop punk and then riot like a hardcore kid, and you are looking at this record. Tracks like “Your way with words is through silence,†“You should have killed me when you had the chance†and “You had me at hello,†are the darlings of this record, but then again I could name drop the whole track list. This is probably one of the best albums I’ve heard this year.
