8 Lives Left – Demo

By paul

Apparently I’m not allowed to write negative reviews because it makes me sound like like “an old man.” And apparently giving an opinion and trying to back that up with your own thoughts makes for an “unnecessary review”. I forgot that you could give an opinion and still be wrong, how silly of me! So, for one day only, I promise not to say anything negative whatsoever. Instead, I shall only lavish bands with praise. It doesn’t matter that I’m lying, right? After all, people don’t want to read criticism, they’re only interested in the positive things that people have to say.

So, 8 Lives Left are the greatest thing since sliced bread. With riffs to die for, sublime vocals and some of the best songs ever created, they’re destined for super-stardom. Hang on, I’ve just described every CD I’ve ever reviewed on Punktastic.

Unrealistic isn’t it? Honesty’s the best policy kids, so it’s only fair I stick to my “old man” tendencies and review the only way I can. So no bias, no backslapping and a wholly honest opinion. 8 Lives Left are another band in the mould of Taking Back Sunday and the Early November and, although they’re wholly unoriginal, they’ve managed to pull off an entire demo’s worth of entertaining material. The vocalist is solid and the riffs are strong, especially for a demo, and so a bright future is almost certainly beckoning. However, the band don’t really push the envelope and they’re certainly not looking at breaking any new boundaries, so if I was them I’d be looking to try and find their own sound rather than mimicking someone else‘s. Other than that, the future’s reasonably bright.

Right, where did I put my pipe, slippers and walking stick? Ouch, my back hurts. Where’s my pension book…I swear I left it somewhere. Nurse?!
